AXES

Axes — correspondences to be tested

Five research axes connect fields without conflating them: they identify resonances, specify interactions to test and organise the revision of hypotheses.

INTERFACES

Axes create operational interfaces.

An axis relates observations from different fields without confusing their respective criteria: an acoustic measurement does not substitute for an account of listening, and physico-chemical analysis does not replace material perception. Their confrontation opens hypotheses that can be tested.

Each axis identifies its connected fields, possible explorations and assessment criteria. Negative or conflicting results remain research evidence and can redirect the experiment.

A.01

SILENT ARCHITECTURES

Producing intensity through reduction. Void, light, shadow, rhythm and constructive precision replace the multiplication of signs. Silence is investigated as an active spatial quality capable of slowing perception and sustaining attention.

Transversal composition

Research fields: F.01 + F.03 + F.04.

Combined explorations: M.01 → M.04 → M.05.

Connect drawings, reverberation, use scenarios and situated listening. Assessment: documented agreement or discrepancy between acoustic measures, spatial model and experience of silence.

Evolving research trajectory

01 — Correspondence

Void, silence and rhythm connect spatial composition, acoustics and inward listening.

02 — Interaction

Vary geometry, absorption and lighting to compare reverberation time, threshold legibility and the lived sense of retreat.

03 — Process and critical feedback

Revise sections, surfaces and routes from measurements and descriptions while retaining differences in interpretation.

ACTIVE MATTER

Designing with material transformation. Ageing, humidity, heat, light, deformation, oxidation and use become project parameters. Research seeks systems in which time contributes to form rather than merely degrading it.

Transversal composition

Research fields: F.02 + F.04 + F.05.

Combined explorations: M.01 → M.03 → M.05.

Combine composition trials, transformation kinetics, photography and imprint making. Assessment: material repeatability and explicit documentation of singular aesthetic qualities.

Evolving research trajectory

01 — Correspondence

Patina, trace and reaction reveal analogies between physicochemical kinetics and artistic construction of surfaces.

02 — Interaction

Expose specimens to controlled conditions and document measurable change alongside artistic surface qualities.

03 — Process and critical feedback

Compare series, ageing and repairability, then revise the formulation or making gesture according to findings.

MORPHOGENESIS & EMERGENT FORMS

Form is treated as the result of a process. Forces, constraints, growth, iterations and local rules generate configurations that are not fully predetermined. Results are assessed structurally, spatially, environmentally and perceptually.

Transversal composition

Research fields: F.02 + F.05 + F.01.

Combined explorations: M.03 → M.04 → M.05.

Compare growth processes, parametric generation and fabrication. Assessment: parameter sensitivity and actual prototype response.

Evolving research trajectory

01 — Correspondence

Growth, assembly and iteration can produce related geometries across scales.

02 — Interaction

Test parametric simulation against construction constraints and the behaviour of physical models.

03 — Process and critical feedback

Preserve variant families, branching thresholds and selection criteria rather than only a final shape.

HYBRID ENVIRONMENTS

Connecting material space and information without replacing place with screens. Light, sound, data, sensors and digital behaviour become discreet environmental layers that can make a place more legible, adaptive or sensitive.

Transversal composition

Research fields: F.01 + F.04 + F.05.

Combined explorations: M.02 → M.04 → M.05.

Connect building envelope, data, interaction and spatial narrative. Assessment: technical operation, reversible interfaces and quality of appropriation.

Evolving research trajectory

01 — Correspondence

Built environment, data and sonic or luminous expression become different readings of a situated phenomenon.

02 — Interaction

Test discreet interfaces for reliability, use, latency, reversibility and lived experience.

03 — Process and critical feedback

Document the sensor–processing–expression–human feedback chain, then simplify or adjust the installation.

AUGMENTED PERCEPTION

Making normally imperceptible phenomena sensible. Thermal variation, vibration, flows, atmospheric data, sound fields and slow temporalities can be translated into light, sound, image or spatial events without being reduced to visual effects.

Transversal composition

Research fields: F.03 + F.04 + F.01.

Combined explorations: M.01 → M.02 → M.05.

Compare visual and auditory stimulation, bodily gestures and phenomenological accounts. Assessment: explicit distinction between measurable effects and lived meaning.

Evolving research trajectory

01 — Correspondence

A barely perceptible phenomenon may correspond to another sensory modality without a perfect identity between source and translation.

02 — Interaction

Compare the original signal, its visual or sonic transposition and the experience of different observers.

03 — Process and critical feedback

Identify losses of meaning, perceptual biases and contextual effects before revising the translation protocol.

EVOLVING RESEARCH FRAMEWORK

One matrix, three interdependent operations.

Each enquiry can cross several fields, engage multiple axes and combine several explorations. Outcomes, including contradictory ones, may redirect correspondences, protocols and the original research question.

01

CORRESPONDENCES

Identify resonances without confusing analogy with evidence.

02

INTERACTIONS

Test hypotheses against material behaviour, spatial conditions and lived experience.

03

PROCESSES

Document, compare, revise and renew the investigation.
