A research laboratory exploring correspondences, interactions and processes across space, matter and sensory phenomena.
NEXAPSIS brings architecture, matter, image, sound, perception and science into a transdisciplinary inquiry. Correspondences generate hypotheses; interactions expose them to reality; processes document their transformation.
A laboratory of correspondences.
NEXAPSIS approaches disciplines not as isolated territories but through their interactions. It examines correspondences between body and space, matter and time, perception and memory, light and representation, and phenomena and their models. Transversality is the operative principle of this enquiry: connecting heterogeneous observations without reducing them to a single language.
From separate disciplines to tested correspondences.
Transversality is not the simple accumulation of specialities. It consists in constructed passages between bodies of knowledge, instruments and ways of perceiving: a survey may become a score, a material an image, or a geometry a sonic experience. Each passage requires translation, protocol and critical verification.
Space and sound
Connect spatial morphology, circulation, acoustic absorption and reverberation with situated listening, the rhythm of movement and perceived distance. Acoustic models are confronted with actual listening experiences.
Matter and image
Investigate how roughness, deposits, transparency, imprints and light interact. Serial photography, texture surveys, drawing and material experimentation offer complementary descriptions of matter.
Body and perception
Examine how thresholds, scale, light, temperature and material resistance shape bodily orientation, attention, movement and memories of place. Instrument readings and lived accounts are treated as distinct forms of evidence.
Data and form
Bring measurements, diagrams, parametric models and creative gestures into dialogue. Every translation — from a dataset to a geometry, image or sound — makes its rules and limitations explicit.
Living systems and environments
Connect environmental cycles, construction performance, energy flows and biological timescales. Architecture is approached not only as a technical object but as an interaction with uses, organisms and changing environments.
Transversal research does not erase disciplinary standards. It makes interfaces observable and turns differences between forms of knowledge into research questions.
Fields, axes, explorations.
Three complementary layers: what we study, the connections we investigate, and the protocols we apply.
Frame the phenomena under study
Five research fields whose interfaces may evolve with each hypothesis.
Construct and test correspondences
Five axes connect distinct fields while respecting their specific practices.
Experiment and revise
Five complementary explorations combine observation, questioning, formulation, modelling and prototyping in a documented and reversible research process.
Research as a reversible process.
The protocol is not a fixed validation chain. A model, observation or experiment may change the original question.
Each operation links relevant fields and axes: instrumental evidence, artistic traces and phenomenological accounts are compared, then fed into a new iteration of the protocol.
Opening questions, connecting knowledge.
Universities, researchers, designers, craftspeople, artists and technical partners are invited to propose a research question, hypothesis or experimental context.
One matrix, three interdependent operations.
Each enquiry can cross several fields, engage multiple axes and combine several explorations. Outcomes, including contradictory ones, may redirect correspondences, protocols and the original research question.
CORRESPONDENCES
Identify resonances without confusing analogy with evidence.
INTERACTIONS
Test hypotheses against material behaviour, spatial conditions and lived experience.
PROCESSES
Document, compare, revise and renew the investigation.
